The moment has finally come – Freqcon can officially move into its new facility. More space for innovations, further developments, dreams, and future visions.

“Innovation means bringing together two things that already exist in a new way.” (Tom Freston)

At the Energy and Business Park Rethem on the Aller (EGRA), there was much to celebrate on June 13: the inauguration of a new production hall, built by the developer EGRA. The ceremonial handover of the keys to Freqcon was accompanied by a retrospective presented by EGRA Supervisory Board Chairman Dieter Moll, who also highlighted the ten-year anniversary of the revitalization and renovation of the former Toschi industrial site and the successful collaboration between EGRA and Freqcon.
Political representatives, business associations, and companies attended the event. Dieter Moll welcomed the guest speakers: District Administrator Jens Grote, Samtgemeinde Mayor Björn Symank, and Freqcon Managing Directors Henrik von Haslingen and Norbert Hennchen. Moll thanked the active members, supporters, and sponsors of EGRA and Freqcon, including Minister of Economic Affairs Olaf Lies, Bundestag Member Lars Klingbeil, State Parliament Member Sebastian Zinke, Rethem’s Mayor Frank Leverenz, and Helma Spöring, the first district councilor at EGRA’s founding, now Mayor of Walsrode, who has supported the project since the beginning.
EGRA Managing Director Henning Lübbehüsen added special praise for Moll and expressed his gratitude to all involved. He also took the opportunity to thank the construction companies present, including Eimer-Bau, Firma ELF, and local craftsmen such as Elektro-Feldmann, Malerfirma Gümmer, Sanitär- und Heizungsbau Reinecke, and Tischlerei Mahler. Special recognition was given to Tjorben Karkheck, Assistant to the Management, for his outstanding coordination of the hall construction project.
A photo retrospective highlighted EGRA’s success in renovating and revitalizing the former Toschi industrial site. To date, EGRA has invested over €9 million of its own funds, loans, and grants from the EU, the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economic Affairs, NBank, the Heide district, and the Samtgemeinde and city of Rethem. After renovating the old Toschi halls, the companies Heckmann and Freqcon leased the refurbished spaces. Today, Freqcon alone employs over 100 people there. Following another renovation phase, additional commercial space was leased by EGRA for Freqcon’s hydrogen project.
The founders of Freqcon, Erika Weber and Norbert Hennchen, can be proud of these achievements. Freqcon Managing Director Norbert Hennchen emphasized that the growing demand for production space aligns perfectly with EGRA’s revitalized infrastructure. The inauguration and handover of the new hall are proof of this.
The key handover of the 2,400 m² EGRA hall to Freqcon Managing Directors Norbert Hennchen and Henrik von Haslingen marked the highlight of the celebration. New Freqcon Managing Director Henrik von Haslingen stressed the hall’s importance for the company’s future. It will not only expand production capacity but also increase efficiency through optimized working conditions and material supply. Over the past years, Freqcon has grown significantly and plays a key role in driving the energy transition.

The company focuses on the development and production of energy storage solutions that are in demand worldwide. The new hall on the EGRA site represents another step toward realizing the vision of a sustainable energy future.
Special recognition from Henrik von Haslingen was given to employees who played a key role in the construction of the hall, particularly Matthias Bock, Alexander Radtke, Maria Becker, and Tjorben Karkheck. Additional thanks went to all involved, including EGRA, the construction companies, and political supporters, for the successful completion of the project.
As District Administrator Jens Grote expressed: “Something special is happening in Rethem – a modern company known for its innovation, rooted in Rethem, and active worldwide.” Grote also highlighted Freqcon’s commitment to making the world a better place, including the integration of “office dogs,” which positively influence the work environment. The company’s ongoing recruitment emphasizes its role as a major economic and cooperative partner for the Rethem community.
Grote described the long-standing collaboration with EGRA as a stroke of luck. Through joint commitment, the forgoing of dividends, and voluntary work, a harmonious, almost “marriage-like” partnership has emerged, benefiting both Freqcon and the community. “EGRA and Freqcon: a partnership for the global energy transition!” said Björn Symank, Samtgemeinde Mayor of Rethem. He emphasized that companies driving innovation and energy transition initiatives – not just those in traditional sectors like agriculture and crafts – can thrive in Rethem.
The collaboration between EGRA and Freqcon is particularly noteworthy, enabling the development of products for the global energy transition. In Rethem, Freqcon’s electric vehicles have become a recognizable feature and are now part of everyday life, demonstrating the region’s significant progress toward sustainability. Symank added, “It is up to us in politics to continue promoting and supporting this environment.”
The key to this success lies in the partnership between companies like EGRA and Freqcon, which combine their strengths to contribute to the future, fostering long-term collaboration and mutual growth.
Guests at the celebration enjoyed a guided tour of the EGRA site, led by EGRA Managing Director Werner Bergmann, one of the first citizens of Rethem to establish operations there after the collapse of the Toschi company with his firm BLT. The event concluded with food and drinks, including hearty pizzas from Restaurant Morgenland in Rethem, delicious ice cream from Gelato Michele in Walsrode, and refreshing beverages from the Rethem-based Hol-AB Getränkemarkt.
