Black Start Capability

Autonomous Grid Restart

The black start capability enables energy systems to restore a power grid after a complete blackout without relying on an external power supply. Grid-forming converters and battery energy storage systems can independently provide voltage and frequency to re-establish stable grid conditions. This allows isolated grid sections to be stabilized step by step while additional generators and loads are gradually reconnected.
As part of the energy transition, black start capability is becoming increasingly important as conventional power plants are progressively being replaced. It enhances energy security and supports the resilient restoration of critical power infrastructure.

  • Additional revenue from remunerated grid service

  • Increasing the security of supply
