Ultracapacitor U-UPS

The FREQCON U-UPS system has been designed to ensure uninterrupted power supply during voltage dips and micro-interruptions in the public grid. It automatically responds to grid events and takes over the load supply via an integrated energy storage unit. As soon as a disturbance is detected, the system disconnects from the public grid and independently establishes an islanded network, ensuring uninterrupted power delivery.

Our U-UPS therefore plays a crucial role in industry, particularly in ensuring system stability and protecting automated production processes. It eliminates production downtime caused by micro-interruptions or voltage dips, thereby guaranteeing maximum operational availability. The system features an extremely fast response time of just 20 ms, allowing it to react immediately to grid events and seamlessly take over the power supply. This solution is ideal for applications where power outages of 1 to 10 seconds must be bridged without interruption.

In the event of a voltage dip, the FREQCON Fast Disconnector ensures that the protected network is disconnected from the public grid. The AC/DC converter supplies the necessary energy for island operation while simultaneously charging the ultracapacitors during normal grid operation. The DC/DC converter converts the constant voltage of the DC intermediate circuit into the variable voltage of the ultracapacitors, which then store the required energy. A bypass switch allows for maintenance and inspections without affecting the system’s functionality.

The FREQCON U-UPS system impresses not only with its high power density and fast charge and discharge times but also with its long service life of up to 1 million operating cycles. The system offers low efficiency losses in standby mode and features a highly efficient liquid cooling system that minimizes energy consumption.
