Our FREQCON BESS second-life battery storage system is an energy storage solution that reuses batteries from previous applications, such as electric vehicles.

Even after years of use, batteries from electric vehicles often retain 70–80% of their original capacity. While this is typically no longer sufficient for automotive applications, it remains highly suitable for stationary energy storage systems. Instead of being directly recycled and leaving their remaining capacity unused, these batteries are given a “second life” in our energy storage system.

The application areas are identical to those of our BESS MAX battery storage system.

Second-life systems are particularly attractive for sustainable applications and cost reduction. The growing number of electric vehicles will also ensure an increasing long-term availability of suitable replacement batteries. Costs are therefore expected to continue to decline in the future. In addition, ongoing advancements in electromobility are likely to drive greater standardization of battery modules, significantly simplifying replacement processes. This will also have a positive impact on overall cost development.
