Peak shifting

Load shifting is mainly used in industrial processes. The aim is to shift electricity consumption at peak load times – i.e. with high demand and high procurement costs – to phases with lower demand and lower costs. This does not reduce consumption, but merely shifts it over time. Load shifting often aligns the load profiles of electricity consumers with the production of volatile renewable energy plants (wind power, photovoltaics) because their low electricity production costs depress prices on the electricity exchange.
Benefits:
- Reduction of electricity costs
- Efficient energy management
