Official launch of battery-flywheel hybrid project in Ireland
FREQCON GmbH is part of the AdD HyStor consortium that received € 2,944 mill. EU-funding for trialing a 1.0 MW battery-flywheel hybrid energy storage system. Together with Schwungrad Energie Ltd. (Ireland), University of Sheffield (UK) and Adaptive Balancing Power GmbH (Germany) the consortium installed the demonstrator at the Rhode Hybrid Test Facility in County Offaly, Ireland. The trial phase was officially launched on the 29th of August 2018 with EU-Commissioner Phil Hogan and several local politicians and media attending. Once successfully tested and validated, the battery-flywheel hybrid technology will be rolled out at larger scale to help the Irish grid operator achieve higher levels of renewable integration.
